Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Department

About the Department

The Government of Karnataka has set up Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Department (SDEL) to help the youth to acquire necessary skills and expertise to increase their employability.

      Vision : Internationally acceptable skilling for all, to reap the maximum possible demographic dividend for rapid balanced sectoral growth and inclusive development, leading to decent employment opportunities for all.

     Mission : Empower all individuals through improved skills, knowledge and nationally and internationally recognized qualifications to gain access to decent work and gainful employment, and ensure the state’s competitiveness in the global market. SDEL aims to create opportunities for learning throughout the trainees’ life, with respect to his/her individuality

Department Activities

Department aims to undertake the functions of regulation, standardization, promotion, implementation and monitoring of all skill development initiatives in the state.

The department also conducts job fairs and skill awareness programs like yuva kaushalya and so on.

  • Chief Minister’s Kaushalya Karnataka Yojane (CMKKY) 

    • Chief Minister’s Kaushalya Karnataka Yojane is an ambitious skill development scheme of state government of Karnataka under which unemployed youth would be provided skill training.

  • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)

    • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE),Govt. of India. The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.

  • Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU GKY)

    • DDU-GKY is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), tasked with the dual objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and cater to the career aspirations of rural youth.

  • National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM)

    • NRLM intends to reduce poverty by enabling the rural poor households to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis, through building strong grassroots institutions of the poor.

  • National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM)

    • NULM intends to reduce poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in an appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis, through building strong grassroots level institutions of the poor.

  • Center for Entrepreneurship Development of Karnataka (CEDOK)

    • CEDOK has been spearheading entrepreneurship movement throughout the state.  The mission of CEDOK is :

      • To augment the supply of entrepreneurs through education and training.
      • To produce multiplier effect on opportunities for self employment.
      • To improve the managerial capabilities of small entrepreneurs.
      • To contribute to the dispersal of entrepreneurship and thus expand the social base of the entrepreneurial class in urban / rural areas.
      • Conducting monitoring and Evaluation studies of General and especially for Women, SC & ST, Minorities and Backward Classes.
      • To be a centre of learning for trainer – motivators on entrepreneurship development.
